How do superheros make their costumes?

superheroes_header

This was a topic of discussion the other night. We were watching the new Daredevil TV show and I was complaining about the fact that regular clothes with a bit of fabric tied over his face does not a super hero costume make.

In the Spiderman movies not only does Peter Parker find time to teach himself how to sling around buildings he somehow also manages to figure out how to mold and make an entire latex/spandex suit…overnight.

At least in Superman (Dean Cain version) we knew that his S was on his baby blanket and that his mum helped sew him an outfit. So from a sewing knowledge/skills point of view that all works. Plus they made this natty montage too.

Thor comes from a planet where he is a ruler so I’m sure he has an entire armory contingent to make his leather and metal armour so he doesn’t need to make his own.

Bruce Banner/The Hulk seems to just wear his regular clothes but why do his pants increase when he changes but don’t shrink back down when he returns to being Bruce Banner?

Is Alfred the Butler really an amazing latex tailor in his spare time to create and maintain Batman’s outfits?

But all these others how do they do it? and if learning amazing technical sewing virtually overnight comes with being a superhero then is there a secret stash of fabric in the batcave?

Something Sparkly

 sequins

1 – sequin purse via Vila Clothes Blog 2 – sequin skirt via The Sartorialist    3- gold sequin jacket – struggling to find the original link for this one, if someone knows can you let let me know? 4 – sequin shorts via Fashiolista

Last night I was walking home and passed Miss Chu’s this cute little place that specialises in rice paper rolls. They have an outdoor seating area that is a miss match of school chairs, random desks and tables all decorated with banana leaves and strings of pepper lantern lights.

All this miss matched but amazingly well put together decor is not what caught my eye. There were 4 women having dinner. They were laughing and smiling and looked so healthy and happy, it was a joy to see.

One of them had paired a black sequin jacket with a t shirt, jeans and flats. It was so effortlessly cool. Just laid back and easy with this shimmer that reflected under the twinkling lights of the paper lanterns.

So naturally I am now thinking about adding a little bit of sparkle to my wardrobe?

Do you like to add a bit of shimmer to your wardrobe? What works for you?

Mini Obsession – coloured hair

It’s coming up to getting my hair done again. This is a very regular occurrence but I still love it. Ben my hairdresser is brilliant and I have been seeing him for years.

I’ve been almost every shade of blonde, pink, purple, lilac imaginable. I’ve been blue (looked fantastic till the first wash then was a weird dishwater colour?) I’ve been red which made me look far more like raggedy Anne than I care to. I’ve even had a flash of neon green.

I never decide what I’m getting done I just go in and relax and come out with amazing hair. But still these images have been providing some strong inspiration.

Promise to let you know what colour I come out this time!
