New Bralet workshop dates and other classes

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week? We’ve been indulging a mini break with some time off to enjoy Sydney. So far we have walked through the city, Barrangaroo, Rose and Rushcutters Bay, been to the zoo, I went paddleboarding in a new spot in the harbour and just generally enjoyed having a bit of a relax.

However I interrupt all this relatxation to bring you exciting news of a new bralet workshop date and some details on other places you can find me teaching classes and workshops. IMG_8814

New Bralet workshop will be on the 18th of September. You can find out all the specifics here. I will cover the techniques you need to get started with stretch, lingerie elastic and how to get the best results. The last one was lots of fun with some really beautiful bralets being made and much new found confidence for sewing lingerie.

If you are a beginner sewer you can now come learn from me at Bobbin and Ink where I will be taking their Clothes Making for Beginners Class. The course schedule is a great way to learn your way around your machine and proceed into making garments. It should be lots of fun and I’m looking forward to working in their great space. If you fancy a whole weekend of sewing you can participate in the Make, Sew & Gather retreat being held in Sydney on the 28th to 30th of October. I’ll be there on the Sunday to take you through an entire day of Lingerie sewing. Lots of classes covering, sewing, knitting and other skills are on offer throughout the event. More details can be found here.

As always if there is anything in particular you would like to learn you can book a private lesson with me or if you have an idea for a workshop just email me (link in sidebar) and I’ll try and make that happen.

Shibori Workshop

shibori_wallpaper

For years I’ve been fascinated by the indigo dyes of Japan and the designs of Shibori. It truly is an art form and their inky seductiveness is too good to resist.

I’ve also seen plenty of DIY/online type tutorials that look amazing and some sewists have had some absolutely fabulous results with their own efforts. So all of this got me hunting for a way to learn more about how to create these looks.

A late night trawl through Instagram led me to Shibori  a Sydney based workshop that not only sells breathtaking pieces but also conducts workshops. A few emails later and they agreed to put on a special beginners workshop that we can fill with sewists.

Everyone Deserves Pretty Knickers – knicker making class

sewmakecreate - knicker making class 1st June 2014 - 08

It’s been a few hours and multiple cups of tea and I’m finally recovering from the amazingness of teaching my first knicker class.

First up it was SO MUCH FUN and that was down to the lovely ladies in class of Mel, Stef, Carmen and Lyndall. They were all so enthusiastic and willing to give it a try that it made it a joy to teach them.

The space at Sew Make Create was all set up with Janome machines and an overlocker for people to share and a beautiful big cutting table.

We went through how to find the right size, cutting on the bias, creating the gusset and then attaching the elastic. Along the way I was trying to make sure that everyone understood what I meant to not only do it in class with me there to help but more importantly to be able to do it once they got home.

Overall we did really well, I wish we had another hour in class to help out as with many new techniques to learn I felt slightly cramped for time.

It was great and I so hope everyone keeps sewing knickers at home.
