Sewing Adventures – Deer and Doe Myosotis Dress v2

I loved my first Myosotis so much I pretty much started cutting out a second one after the first day of wearing my first version.

I was using this lush Liberty Tana Lawn which was another one I picked up when I was in the UK at some point.

Everything was exactly the same as the first time I made it except for the collar. In my first one I get these weird drag lines. It gets so bad while wearing that it actually looks like the garment has tucks in it.

This time I tried it on before I added the collar and discovered the bodice comes up into the column of my neck. To fix the problem I shaved over a centimetre off from the neckline. I think I would actually take more if I’m going to make it again as it has still a slight drag line to it.

Apart from that it was as straight forward sew. I skipped making buttonholes as I discovered that I can just pull it on over my head. It needs a good press but when I took these photos I hadn’t bought my lovely new iron yet.

It’s lovely and floaty and goes well with tights and boots for winter and am sure it will ease me right into the warm weather too. Snapped these photos on a sunny day after teaching at Bobbin and Ink.

Pattern: Deer and Doe Myosotis Dress

Fabric: Liberty Tana Lawn

Alterations: shaved 1cm off neckline, all other alts as per last time I made the pattern.

DIY Christmas Decorations

Last Christmas season while pinning away on Pinterest I came across this fabulous DIY of covered baubles.

patchwork baubles

It got me thinking and soon I was raiding my small scraps tub for Liberty and Liberty style florals. Armed with my pinking shears I started cutting and cutting and cutting some more. Soon I had quite a bundle of small fabric swatches.

Next stop was getting some baubles. Off to reverse garbage I managed to score an entire box for under $5 and looking in the back of my own cupboard I found some very cute teeny tiny ones that are just so sweet.

Armed with an old paint brush and some watered down fabric glue I got to work. As I moved around each bauble I found that threading a bamboo skewer through the hanging section made it a lot easier to hang on to, not to mention way less messy, as by this time my hands were covered in glue.

Soon I had baubles on skewers propped up inside jars all over my desk. After a good 24 to 48 hours drying time I had so many pretty baubles.

Now some made their way to the new homes and trees last Christmas, but many more are on their way this Christmas (I so hope this post doesn’t spoil anyone’s surprise too much).

Mini Obsession – Liberty Nikes

I love Liberty, even before I knew what they were I was always drawn to small print florals. I also love sportswear, technical fabrics that marry together form and function is just like poetry to me.

So you can imagine how the Liberty of London Nikes pretty much make me go weak at the knees.

They are part of the regular collection or you can use the Nike ID program to design your own. Now Nike ID doesn’t work in Australia but it does in the UK, so I can design my own and get them delivered to The Englishman’s parents in time for me to pick up at Christmas.

Now the real dilemma begins of which pattern fabric do I choose?
