New Bralet workshop dates and other classes

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week? We’ve been indulging a mini break with some time off to enjoy Sydney. So far we have walked through the city, Barrangaroo, Rose and Rushcutters Bay, been to the zoo, I went paddleboarding in a new spot in the harbour and just generally enjoyed having a bit of a relax.

However I interrupt all this relatxation to bring you exciting news of a new bralet workshop date and some details on other places you can find me teaching classes and workshops. IMG_8814

New Bralet workshop will be on the 18th of September. You can find out all the specifics here. I will cover the techniques you need to get started with stretch, lingerie elastic and how to get the best results. The last one was lots of fun with some really beautiful bralets being made and much new found confidence for sewing lingerie.

If you are a beginner sewer you can now come learn from me at Bobbin and Ink where I will be taking their Clothes Making for Beginners Class. The course schedule is a great way to learn your way around your machine and proceed into making garments. It should be lots of fun and I’m looking forward to working in their great space. (image courtesy of Bobbin and Ink). We are talking about doing more classes and workshops together too covering lots of sewing skills.

If you fancy a whole weekend of sewing you can participate in the Make, Sew & Gather retreat being held in Sydney on the 28th to 30th of October. I’ll be there on the Sunday to take you through an entire day of Lingerie sewing. Lots of classes covering, sewing, knitting and other skills are on offer throughout the event. More details can be found here.

As always if there is anything in particular you would like to learn you can book a private lesson with me or if you have an idea for a workshop just email me (link in sidebar) and I’ll try and make that happen.

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Jersey slip

For ages I’ve wanted to make some pretty nightwear as I realised I kind of hated my pyjamas. So I’ve been working on a slip pattern.

racerback-slip-bw

I wanted a nice soft stretchy slip that could be made in a jersey or a stretch lace and a racer back. Here are the first few samples, hot off the machine wrinkles and all.

IMG_8754

I’ve been wearing them to see how they feel and what changes need to made to the pattern. First up they are super comfortable and quite flattering. A few small adjustments need to be made.

IMG_9008

Reduce the height on the racer back slightly (comes up too close to the back of the neck). Add a little bit more coverage to the cup area and work on the elastic underbust construction so it sits nice and flat. It sits flat on the black knit but on the printed knit it got a bit wavy.

IMG_9009

Once I get the pattern sorted I can’t wait to make them up in some super pretty laces and knits.

Fabric: Black Viscose jersey, pink folder over elastic purchased at Pitt Trading. White jersey with printed hearts from the stash but purchased forever ago at The Remnant Warehouse. Other trims from the stash.

Pattern: Measure Twice Cut Once pattern  (available soon for sale)

Alterations: Fix pattern and retest before achieving optimum fit and assembly.

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – eye mask

I never knew the value of an eye mask until I was traveling regularly. They save you on flights, giving you a way to black out the world and just have some peace.

When I spotted the super cute masks at Evie la Luve I knew they would be perfect for flights and even better to make as gifts. I mean who doesn’t want a pretty mask?

Using a capelet I had leftover from another project I cut some out.

The fabric on the capelet was so gorgeous it was perfect for upcycling.

I could even use the lining. All I needed to add was some decorative bra strapping for the head band. To ensure a good block out I interfaced the lining with some 3mm iron on wadding (purchased at Pitt Trading).

The result is super cute and very fast, I can foresee many of these making it into my handmade Christmas packs this year (sorry if that spoils the surprise for anyone!).

Fabric: upcycled from a capelet, originally a designer offcut. Iron on wadding purchased at Pitt Trading.

Pattern: Cat eye mask from Evie la Luve

Alterations:  used decorative bra strapping instead of foldover elastic for head band. Next time make the elastic short by 2cm,

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Bra Kit Sale

Throughout the whole fortnight I’m having a sale on bra kits. We had a slight glitch with the system in the last 48 hours where some international customers were getting slugged huge amounts for postage. So I’ve now changed it so international postage is now a flat rate of $15 AUD. I wish I could get it lower but sadly that’s how much I get charged for it. Good news is that because it’s a flat rate it won’t increase the more you buy. So either stock up or grab some friends and pool your purchases into one order.

Site makeover and new bra kit colours

tumeric_header

I’ve given the site a makeover, new layout, some new features and all kinds of nice shiny features under the hood that you don’t get to see but make the site actually work.

Screen Shot 2016-02-24 at 6.24.10 pm
There’s a new FAQ page that covers most of the questions I get most frequently via email and the sewalongs page has been updated to include links to all the Named Clothing Beverly Bikini posts.

The webstore has also been restocked with lots of beautiful new colours of bra kits. The gorgeous new Tumeric cover has almost sold out already so get in quick if there is a colour you like.

If you find any glitches with the new layout just let me know and I’ll fix them right up.

Bra Kit Sale and new Dye your own kits

brasale_header

In anticipation of a new year filled with lots of lovely new bra colours, I decided to have a bit of a sale of colours currently in stock. These colours may not come around again for awhile so get in quick while stocks last. Kits remain on sale till sold out or till 1st of December.

Prices have gone from the usual $25.00 per kit to $20.00 per kit. For those not in Australia be sure to check your exchange rate as you can get an even better bargain due to the Australian dollar being so low at the moment. Naturally we post worldwide too.

I’ve also added a new dye your own kit. This kit has all the components as the other kits but you can choose your own type of dyes and create your own colours. The components are all prepare for dye (PFD) so in many cases are not totally white. A variety  of shades of whites and creams exist in each kit. These are the same pieces I use for the dyed kits and all dye to the one colour as long as you follow your dye packet instructions. It does mean they aren’t suitable for an all white bra as you will get shade variations between the varying pieces.

Everyone Deserves Pretty Knickers week – stash busting

2015-knickersweek_header

Every so often I get all excited about making pretty knickers and want to run out and buy heaps of new fabrics. However one the reasons I started sewing my own knickers was to stash bust.

Woven knickers are lovely to wear, breatheable, great for the summer time and while not as smooth as knit fabrics they are undeniably sweet and very comfortable. So as part of Everyone Deserves Pretty Knickers week I have gone through the stash, picked out some pretty lawns and soft cottons and cut out some styles.

I’ve chosen The Georgiana Knickers which I like as a cute bikini style and The Jane Knickers a great sleep short for the summer.

TheGeorgianaKnicker

TheJaneKnickers
Each night I’m going to sew a little bit and hopefully by the end of the week I’ve reduced the fabric stash and have pretty knickers!
If you like the idea of stash busting and some lovely to wear woven knickers you can follow the sewalongs from the first Everyone Deserves Pretty Knickers week. I’ll be posting my progress on instagram and don’t forget to use the #everyonedeservesprettyknickers hashtag if you are making your own pretty knickers this week!
