Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie Week 2017

It’s back! a whole week of pretty lingerie because everyone deserves to have pretty things!

Lots planned for this week to show off some of my more recent makes, there’s been plenty of robe wearing going on here, so I’ll have a run down of a few patterns that I’ve used and some other bits and pieces that I’ve made. The whole point of the week is to encourage everyone to grab some pretty fabric and a pattern of their choice and make something just for them. Go on and give it a go, I know you will enjoy it.

Plus just for fun a good old fashioned blog button

Sewing Adventures – The Georgiana Knickers

To say that 2017 has started with a heatwave seems to undersell just how hot it has been in Sydney. I don’t mind hot weather as mostly I can escape it by staying in during the hottest parts of the days, going swimming and walking on the shady side of the street. Heat at night is a whole other thing. I honestly don’t think I’ve slept properly in weeks it’s been so hot overnight.

So I’m looking for every ounce of coolness that I can get. With an hour or so spare today I whipped up 2 pairs of woven cotton knickers using my Georgiana knicker pattern. They are quite fast as all the edges are done using the roll hem function on my overlocker. I love the neat finish my Bernina 800DL gives on roll hems.

They are bikini cut so sit on the hip but have plenty of fullness to the bottom ensuring full coverage. The woven cotton however is delightfully breezy and cool and the perfect thing for this hot weather.

The patterned fabric is part of my stash busting efforts for the year as well. I had this top

Cut out for ages and half made. It was one of the free Peppermint magazine patterns. It just looked weird on me and so I never finished it but I loved the fabric.

Laying it flat I placed the Georgiana knicker pattern over it and cut them out. You can just see some extra seams on the front where I had to add side panels to make it work. A great rescue from a piece that had been condemned to the bottom of the stash.

Fabric: spots from the stash, patterned fabric rescued from a top that went badly. Original fabric from Pitt Trading.
Trims: plush back elastic from my stash
Pattern: The Georgiana Knickers available in the shop
Changes: added extra seams to the front of the patterned pair to be able to fit the pattern onto the top.

Sewing Adventures – Sophie Hines Euler Bra

fullsizerender3

I saw this pattern on instagram last week and just had to have it. It’s the first pattern from designer Sophie Hines, while this is her first sewing pattern she has been making and selling lingerie for some time and has this laid back sporty luxe style that’s super sexy without the raunch factor. The colour aesthetic Sophie uses is super minimal and really beautiful in these muted type tones.

Image of Euler Bra - Sewing Pattern

I wanted to whip up a quick wearable toile and so decided to make a swimsuit version using these lush lycras from Pitt Trading. So in keeping with my regular style why pick just one print when you can use ALL THE PRINTS.

The pattern offers 2 versions, a single hook/clasp back or a double hook/clasp back. I chose the double as I thought it would be cute?

After measuring myself and comparing it to the sizes I cut a size Large. Sizing is done as per garment sizing not cup sizing which I think is fine for soft cup bras.

fullsizerender1
Sewing was fairly straightforward. I used my overlocker for all seams and then straight stitched on the elastic. The instructions are written more than illustrated so have a read through before you get sewing and just refer back to the original garment photos and you will be fine.

I used what hardware I had on hand and took the opportunity to try some metal hardware and a plastic O ring too. I wanted to see how they will go in the water so snuck in a mismatched set so I can compare and contrast how they wear.
Everything went together easily and I like the fact it’s all lined as it makes it super smooth on the inside. I can see myself making more of these for sure. Am already thinking a soft bamboo jersey lined one would be great for summer.

Fabric: printed lycras from Pitt Trading, lightweight jersey lining from Pitt Trading

Trims: Elastic and hardware from the stash

Pattern: Sophie Hines Euler Bra

Alterations: none

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Lingerie Wash Bag

During our 2 week celebration of all things lingerie I’ve made some beautiful things and have many more gorgeous makes planned. Naturally I want to ensure that they last as long as possible and one of the ways to do that is lingerie bags.

These are a lifesaver, they keep your pieces nice and make it easy to do your washing. Because let’s face it not everyone has time to handwash as often as they should.

I could write a tutorial, but that would be like reinventing the wheel when Erin from Dog Under my Desk has written a fabulous how to complete with photos and a step by step. So head on over to Erin’s to make your own beautiful bags.

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Esme Pants and Rosie Bra

I spotted this set on instagram and thought it would be so sweet made up in the Tumeric lace kit I had in the shop. I sort of forgot about it till Evie La Luve had a birthday sale and they I grabbed both pieces so I could give them a try.

set

When cutting out the pattern I noticed it had a few small errors (not lining up in certain areas) nothing major just something I noted.

rosie bra

I’ve made the Rosie Bra with no lining just the lace and the mesh. I think next time I might try going down a size in the Rosie Bra as it could afford to be a little more snug.

bra detail

The instructions weren’t super clear. There are written instructions and then photos underneath but I found many of the photos were too close up for me to see clearly what is happening. I found it easier to look at the finished photos and figure it out from there. My advice would just be to go slow and keep another bra on hand to follow along with if necessary?

esme

The Esme pants are cute, I’m not sure if I got my size right but I’ll check after wearing them as it’s always hard to tell with just a quick try on. I had a little bit of trouble getting the gusset and crotch right, a few lines of extra stitching and it’s all fine just not as neat as I’d like. I couldn’t find my fold over elastic so I just used regular picot elastic for the waistband and it seems to have worked fine.

lace

I really like the way the lace crosses from the front to the back it’s a really cute detail.

lace sides

Fabric: Tumeric lace and trims from Measure Twice Cut Once store black spot mesh and black viscose jersey purchased at Pitt Trading.

Pattern: Esme pants and Rosie Bra from Evie la Luve

Alterations: Try a size down on the bra next time.

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Jersey slip

For ages I’ve wanted to make some pretty nightwear as I realised I kind of hated my pyjamas. So I’ve been working on a slip pattern.

racerback-slip-bw

I wanted a nice soft stretchy slip that could be made in a jersey or a stretch lace and a racer back. Here are the first few samples, hot off the machine wrinkles and all.

IMG_8754

I’ve been wearing them to see how they feel and what changes need to made to the pattern. First up they are super comfortable and quite flattering. A few small adjustments need to be made.

IMG_9008

Reduce the height on the racer back slightly (comes up too close to the back of the neck). Add a little bit more coverage to the cup area and work on the elastic underbust construction so it sits nice and flat. It sits flat on the black knit but on the printed knit it got a bit wavy.

IMG_9009

Once I get the pattern sorted I can’t wait to make them up in some super pretty laces and knits.

Fabric: Black Viscose jersey, pink folder over elastic purchased at Pitt Trading. White jersey with printed hearts from the stash but purchased forever ago at The Remnant Warehouse. Other trims from the stash.

Pattern: Measure Twice Cut Once pattern  (available soon for sale)

Alterations: Fix pattern and retest before achieving optimum fit and assembly.

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – eye mask

I never knew the value of an eye mask until I was traveling regularly. They save you on flights, giving you a way to black out the world and just have some peace.

When I spotted the super cute masks at Evie la Luve I knew they would be perfect for flights and even better to make as gifts. I mean who doesn’t want a pretty mask?

pinned mask

Using a capelet I had leftover from another project I cut some out.

capelet

The fabric on the capelet was so gorgeous it was perfect for upcycling.

fabric closeup

I could even use the lining. All I needed to add was some decorative bra strapping for the head band. To ensure a good block out I interfaced the lining with some 3mm iron on wadding (purchased at Pitt Trading).

The result is super cute and very fast, I can foresee many of these making it into my handmade Christmas packs this year (sorry if that spoils the surprise for anyone!).

back

Fabric: upcycled from a capelet, originally a designer offcut. Iron on wadding purchased at Pitt Trading.

Pattern: Cat eye mask from Evie la Luve

Alterations:  used decorative bra strapping instead of foldover elastic for head band. Next time make the elastic short by 2cm,

Everyone deserves Pretty Lingerie – Bra Kit Sale

Throughout the whole fortnight I’m having a sale on bra kits. We had a slight glitch with the system in the last 48 hours where some international customers were getting slugged huge amounts for postage. So I’ve now changed it so international postage is now a flat rate of $15 AUD. I wish I could get it lower but sadly that’s how much I get charged for it. Good news is that because it’s a flat rate it won’t increase the more you buy. So either stock up or grab some friends and pool your purchases into one order.
